As a Birth Doula, I provide explanation of medical procedures
and interventions while supporting the emotional needs of the birthing mother and her support team. Birth doulas
are a wonderful source of knowledge and advise for expecting mothers even if this is not your first pregnancy. Tips and
hints on exercises and positions to make pregnancy and childbirth more comfortable are just a few ways doulas can be helpful.
Doulas and dads are a great match. It can be difficult
to see your loved one in discomfort, and knowing what suggestion to make and options you have can be overwhelming. As
your doula, I keep members of your birthing team involved as active yet calming support for the laboring woman.
Communication between all members of the laboring woman's birth team is essential.
As your doula, I can assist with the preparation of your birth plan which is a wonderful tool to organize your
thoughts and highlight concerns to discuss with your caregiver.
Studies
have shown women supported by labor doulas can have shorter labors, reduced need for epidurals, reduced rates for cesareans, reduced
the need for analgesics and reduced need for forceps or vacuums for delivery.
